Module 12: CICS Resource Definitions and Administration
CEDC
CEDC is the view-only form of resource definition online. It lets you look at everything on the CSD - DISPLAY one definition, EXPAND a whole group, VIEW a list - but you cannot change the CSD or the running system in any way.
What CEDC allows
- DISPLAY - show a single definition with all its attributes, for example CEDC DISPLAY FILE(ORDFIL) GROUP(ORDGRP).
- EXPAND - list all definitions in a group, or all groups in a list.
- VIEW - browse definitions read-only on the overtype-style screen.
- That is the complete command set. No DEFINE, no ALTER, no DELETE, no INSTALL.
- Because it cannot change anything, CEDC is safe to grant widely - operators, auditors, new team members.
Everyday uses of CEDC
- Checking how a resource is defined before debugging: is TWASIZE big enough, which PROGRAM does this transaction start.
- Comparing test and production: DISPLAY the same definition in both regions and diff the attributes.
- Documentation: EXPAND a group to list every resource an application owns.
- Incident triage: confirm whether a definition exists and is installed, without risk of accidental change.
Example - inspect a transaction and a whole group, safely:
CEDC DISPLAY TRANSACTION(ORD1) GROUP(ORDGRP)
* TRANSACTION(ORD1) PROGRAM(ORDPGM) TWASIZE(200)
* STATUS(ENABLED) PROFILE(DFHCICSA)
CEDC EXPAND GROUP(ORDGRP)
* TRANSACTION(ORD1) PROGRAM(ORDPGM) FILE(ORDFIL)
* MAPSET(ORDMAP) TDQUEUE(PRTQ)
CEDC ALTER PROGRAM(ORDPGM) GROUP(ORDGRP)
* ALTER is not available with CEDC <-- rejected, by design
