Module 5: CICS BMS and Screens

DFHMSD

What DFHMSD does

  • DFHMSD is coded once per mapset and supplies values that apply to the entire mapset.
  • It has two formats: format 1 starts the mapset, format 2 (TYPE=FINAL) ends it.
  • The label (1 to 7 characters) is the mapset name. It must be unique within the CICS system.
  • The mapset name is what you code on the MAPSET option of SEND MAP and RECEIVE MAP.

Format 1 parameters

  • TYPE: &SYSPARM generates both maps, DSECT generates only the symbolic map, MAP generates only the physical map.
  • LANG: the programming language - code LANG=COBOL so the symbolic map is a COBOL 01-level group item.
  • MODE: IN, OUT or INOUT - whether the mapset is used for input, output, or both.
  • TERM: the terminal type the physical map supports, for example TERM=3270-2.
  • CTRL: control options for every map in the mapset - FREEKB frees the keyboard, ALARM sounds the alarm.
  • STORAGE=AUTO: each map's symbolic map gets separate storage; otherwise they share the same storage.
  • TIOAPFX=YES: generates the 12-byte FILLER at the beginning of the symbolic map for system control information.
  • MAPATTS / DSATTS: extended attributes (COLOR, HILIGHT) supported by the physical / symbolic map.
  • Example:-
    INQSET1 DFHMSD TYPE=&SYSPARM, X LANG=COBOL, X MODE=INOUT, X TERM=3270-2, X CTRL=FREEKB, X STORAGE=AUTO, X TIOAPFX=YES

Format 2 - ending the mapset

  • Code DFHMSD TYPE=FINAL after the last map's DFHMDF macros.
  • It tells BMS the mapset is complete; leaving it out causes assembly errors.
  • The assembler END statement follows it as the very last line of the input stream.
